V with Accent (ṽ ṿ) on Keyboard: How to Type V with Accents

V with accent (ṽ ṿ) is very rare and only used in phonetic writing, so the easiest way to get it is to copy it from the box below.
On Windows, there are no Alt codes for these letters. The easiest way is to copy them from the box below, or in Word type the Unicode (for example 1E7D for ṽ) and press Alt + X.
On Mac, press Control + Command + Space to open Character Viewer and search for v with tilde.
No major language use an accent on V. ṽ is used in phonetics for a nasal v sound, and ṿ is used in some transliterations.
Below I explain every way to type V with accent on Windows, Mac, Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Chromebook, and phones. There is also a quick reference table at the end with all the codes in one place.
V with Accent Copy and Paste
Just need the letter one time? Click on any letter below and it will be copied to your clipboard. Then paste it anywhere with Ctrl + V (Windows) or Command + V (Mac).
Click a letter to copy it.
For V with accent, copy and paste is honestly the best method for most people, because there is no simple keyboard shortcut for this letters.
Is There an Alt Code for V with Accent?
No. Windows Alt codes (like Alt + 0233 for é) only cover a small set of Western European letters, and none of the main V accents are in that set.
Some websites say you can type Alt plus the Unicode number. That does not work in most Windows apps and gives you a wrong character. The methods below work every time.

- Set the font to Segoe UI and tick Advanced view.
- In Search for, type the name, for example tilde, and click on Search.
- Find your letter, click on Select and then Copy.

How to Type V with Accent in Microsoft Word
Method 1: Unicode and Alt + X
This is my favorite method in Word, because it works for any letter and you don't need a number pad.
Type the Unicode of the letter and then press Alt + X. For example, type 1E7D and press Alt + X, and Word will change it to ṽ.
The codes are 1E7D (ṽ) and 1E7F (ṿ). For capitals: 1E7C (Ṽ), 1E7E (Ṿ).
Method 2: Insert Symbol
- Go to Insert -> Symbol -> More Symbols.
- Set Font to (normal text) and Subset to Latin Extended Additional.
- If you can't find it, type the code (for example 1E7D) in the Character code box at the bottom.
- Select the V with accent and click on Insert.
How to Type V with Accent in Google Docs
Google Docs has two good ways to type rare accents, and both work on any computer.
Method 1: Special Characters
- Click on Insert -> Special characters.
- In the search box, type v with tilde, v with dot below or similar.
- Click on the letter to insert it.
You can also draw the letter with your mouse in the box on the left side, and Google Docs will find it for you.
Method 2: Create your Own Shortcut
If you use one accent a lot, let Docs type it for you. Docs can replace a short text with the letter automatically.
- Go to Tools -> Preferences and open the Substitutions tab.
- In the left box, type a short code like v::. In the right box, paste ṽ.
- Click on OK.
Now every time you type v:: followed by a space, Docs will change it to ṽ. Do the same for other accents.
How to Type V with Accent on Chromebook
Chromebook doesn't support Alt codes, but it has a Unicode shortcut that works for every letter:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + U. You will see an underlined u.
- Type the code of the letter, for example 1e7d for ṽ.
- Press Space or Enter.
The codes are same as Word: 1e7d (ṽ) and 1e7f (ṿ).

Most phone keyboards don't show V with accent, even when you touch and hold the V key. The easiest way on iPhone and Android is to copy it from the box at the top and paste it.
