P with Accent (ṕ ṗ) on Keyboard: How to Type P with Accents

P with accent (ṕ ṗ) is one of the rarest accented letters and there is no shortcut for it on Windows or Mac, so copy it from the box below.

On Windows, there are no Alt codes for these letters. The easiest way is to copy them from the box below, or in Word type the Unicode (for example 1E55 for ṕ) and press Alt + X.

On Mac, press Control + Command + Space to open Character Viewer and search for p with acute.

ṗ (p with dot above) is used in old Irish writing, and ṕ mostly shows up in phonetic transcription.

Below I explain every way to type P with accent on Windows, Mac, Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Chromebook, and phones. There is also a quick reference table at the end with all the codes in one place.

P with Accent Copy and Paste

Just need the letter one time? Click on any letter below and it will be copied to your clipboard. Then paste it anywhere with Ctrl + V (Windows) or Command + V (Mac).

Click a letter to copy it.

For P with accent, copy and paste is honestly the best method for most people, because there is no simple keyboard shortcut for this letters.

Is There an Alt Code for P with Accent?

No. Windows Alt codes (like Alt + 0233 for é) only cover a small set of Western European letters, and none of the main P accents are in that set.

Some websites say you can type Alt plus the Unicode number. That does not work in most Windows apps and gives you a wrong character. The methods below work every time.

  2. Set the font to Segoe UI and tick Advanced view.
  3. In Search for, type the name, for example acute, and click on Search.

How to Type P with Accent in Microsoft Word

Method 1: Unicode and Alt + X

This is my favorite method in Word, because it works for any letter and you don't need a number pad.

Type the Unicode of the letter and then press Alt + X. For example, type 1E55 and press Alt + X, and Word will change it to ṕ.

The codes are 1E55 (ṕ) and 1E57 (ṗ). For capitals: 1E54 (Ṕ), 1E56 (Ṗ).

Method 2: Insert Symbol

  1. Go to Insert -> Symbol -> More Symbols.
  2. Set Font to (normal text) and Subset to Latin Extended Additional.
  3. If you can't find it, type the code (for example 1E55) in the Character code box at the bottom.
  4. Select the P with accent and click on Insert.

How to Type P with Accent in Google Docs

Google Docs has two good ways to type rare accents, and both work on any computer.

Method 1: Special Characters

  1. Click on Insert -> Special characters.
  2. In the search box, type p with acute, p with dot above or similar.
  3. Click on the letter to insert it.

You can also draw the letter with your mouse in the box on the left side, and Google Docs will find it for you.

Method 2: Create your Own Shortcut

If you use one accent a lot, let Docs type it for you. Docs can replace a short text with the letter automatically.

  1. Go to Tools -> Preferences and open the Substitutions tab.
  2. In the left box, type a short code like p::. In the right box, paste ṕ.
  3. Click on OK.

Now every time you type p:: followed by a space, Docs will change it to ṕ. Do the same for other accents.

How to Type P with Accent on Chromebook

Chromebook doesn't support Alt codes, but it has a Unicode shortcut that works for every letter:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + U. You will see an underlined u.
  2. Type the code of the letter, for example 1e55 for ṕ.
  3. Press Space or Enter.

The codes are same as Word: 1e55 (ṕ) and 1e57 (ṗ).
