H with Accent (ĥ ħ ḥ) on Keyboard: How to Type H with Accents

H with accent (ĥ ħ ḥ) has no Alt code on Windows, so copy and paste from the box below is the fastest way to type it.

On Windows, there are no Alt codes for these letters. The easiest way is to copy them from the box below, or in Word type the Unicode (for example 0125 for ĥ) and press Alt + X.

On Mac, press Control + Command + Space to open Character Viewer and search for h with circumflex.

ħ is a letter of the Maltese alphabet, ĥ is used in Esperanto, and ḥ is common when Arabic names are written in English letters, like Aḥmad.

Below I explain every way to type H with accent on Windows, Mac, Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Chromebook, and phones. There is also a quick reference table at the end with all the codes in one place.

H with Accent Copy and Paste

Click on any letter in the box and it is copied to your clipboard right away. Then paste it with Ctrl + V on Windows or Command + V on Mac.

Most used Other H accents

Click a letter to copy it.

Honestly, for H with accent this is the best method. There is no easy shortcut on most keyboards, so copy and paste save you a lot of time.

Is There an Alt Code for H with Accent?

Sadly no. The Alt codes in Windows (like Alt + 0233 for é) only works for a small group of Western European letters, and H with accent is not one of them.

Some websites say you can type Alt plus the Unicode number. That does not work in most Windows apps and gives you a wrong character. The methods below work every time.

  3. In Search for, type the name, for example circumflex, and click on Search.

How to Type H with Accent in Microsoft Word

Method 1: Unicode and Alt + X

This is my favorite method in Word, because it works for any letter and you don't need a number pad.

Type the Unicode of the letter and then press Alt + X. For example, type 0125 and press Alt + X, and Word will change it to ĥ.

The codes are 0125 (ĥ), 0127 (ħ) and 1E25 (ḥ). For capitals: 0124 (Ĥ), 0126 (Ħ), 1E24 (Ḥ).

Method 2: Insert Symbol

  1. Go to Insert -> Symbol -> More Symbols.
  2. Set Font to (normal text).
  3. If you can't find it, type the code (for example 0125) in the Character code box at the bottom.
  4. Select the H with accent and click on Insert.

How to Type H with Accent in Google Docs

In Google Docs, you don't need any keyboard shortcut for this. There is two easy ways.

Method 1: Special Characters

  1. Click on Insert -> Special characters.
  2. In the search box, type h with circumflex, h with stroke, h with dot below or similar.
  3. Click on the letter to insert it.

You can also draw the letter with your mouse in the box on the left side, and Google Docs will find it for you.

Method 2: Create your Own Shortcut

If you use one accent a lot, let Docs type it for you. Docs can replace a short text with the letter automatically.

  1. Go to Tools -> Preferences and open the Substitutions tab.
  2. In the left box, type a short code like h::. In the right box, paste ĥ.
  3. Click on OK.

Now every time you type h:: followed by a space, Docs will change it to ĥ. Do the same for other accents.

How to Type H with Accent on Chromebook

Chromebook doesn't support Alt codes, but it has a Unicode shortcut that works for every letter:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + U. You will see an underlined u.
  2. Type the code of the letter, for example 0125 for ĥ.
  3. Press Space or Enter.

The codes are same as Word: 0125 (ĥ), 0127 (ħ) and 1e25 (ḥ).

How to Type H with Accent on iPhone and Android

On iPhone and Android, touching and holding the H key usually don't show these accents. Just open this page on your phone, tap the letter in the box at the top, and paste it.

Other H Accents (ḣ)

The accents above are the most common, but some languages use other H accents too. You can copy all of them from the copy and paste box at the top.

  • ḣ (h with dot above): Old Irish. Unicode 1E23.

These letters don't have Alt codes on Windows. Use copy and paste, the emoji panel, or type the Unicode and press Alt + X in Word (or Ctrl + Shift + U on Chromebook).
