K with Accent (ķ ḱ ǩ) on Keyboard: How to Type K with Accents

K with accent (ķ ḱ ǩ) is not on a normal keyboard, but you can copy it from the box below or type it with the Unicode method.

On Windows, there are no Alt codes for these letters. The easiest way is to copy them from the box below, or in Word type the Unicode (for example 0137 for ķ) and press Alt + X.

On Mac, press Control + Command + Space to open Character Viewer and search for k with cedilla.

ķ is a letter in Latvian, like in the word ķirsis (cherry). ǩ is used in Skolt Sami, and ḱ is used to write Macedonian in Latin letters.

Below I explain every way to type K with accent on Windows, Mac, Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Chromebook, and phones. There is also a quick reference table at the end with all the codes in one place.

K with Accent Copy and Paste

Click on any letter in the box and it is copied to your clipboard right away. Then paste it with Ctrl + V on Windows or Command + V on Mac.

Most used Other K accents

Click a letter to copy it.

Honestly, for K with accent this is the best method. There is no easy shortcut on most keyboards, so copy and paste save you a lot of time.

Is There an Alt Code for K with Accent?

Sadly no. The Alt codes in Windows (like Alt + 0233 for é) only works for a small group of Western European letters, and K with accent is not one of them.

Be careful with codes you find online. The Unicode of a letter is not the same as its Alt code, so typing Alt + the Unicode number on the number pad will give you a different character. Use the methods below instead.

How to Type K with Accent on Windows

The emoji panel don't have most rare letters, so use Character Map instead. Here's how to do that:

  1. Search for Character Map in the Start Menu and open it.
  2. Set the font to Segoe UI and tick Advanced view.
  3. In Search for, type the name, for example cedilla, and click on Search.
  4. Find your letter, click on Select and then Copy.

  1. Press Control + Command + Space.
  2. Click on the expand icon at the top right to open the full Character Viewer.
  3. Search for the name, for example k with caron, and double-click the letter to insert it.

How to Type K with Accent in Microsoft Word

Method 1: Unicode and Alt + X

This one works for every accent, and even on laptops without a number pad.

Type the Unicode of the letter and then press Alt + X. For example, type 0137 and press Alt + X, and Word will change it to ķ.

The codes are 0137 (ķ), 1E31 (ḱ) and 01E9 (ǩ). For capitals: 0136 (Ķ), 1E30 (Ḱ), 01E8 (Ǩ).

Method 2: Insert Symbol

  1. Go to Insert -> Symbol -> More Symbols.
  2. Set Font to (normal text).
  3. If you can't find it, type the code (for example 0137) in the Character code box at the bottom.
  4. Select the K with accent and click on Insert.

How to Type K with Accent in Google Docs

In Google Docs, you don't need any keyboard shortcut for this. There is two easy ways.

Method 1: Special Characters

  1. Click on Insert -> Special characters.
  2. In the search box, type k with cedilla, k with acute, k with caron or similar.
  3. Click on the letter to insert it.

You can also draw the letter with your mouse in the box on the left side, and Google Docs will find it for you.

Method 2: Create your Own Shortcut

This is my favorite trick for Google Docs. You can make Docs replace a short text with the accent letter automatically.

  1. Go to Tools -> Preferences and open the Substitutions tab.
  2. In the left box, type a short code like k::. In the right box, paste ķ.
  3. Click on OK.

Now every time you type k:: followed by a space, Docs will change it to ķ. Do the same for other accents.

How to Type K with Accent on Chromebook

Alt codes don't work on Chromebook. Instead, ChromeOS has its own Unicode shortcut:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + U. You will see an underlined u.
  2. Type the code of the letter, for example 0137 for ķ.
  3. Press Space or Enter.

The codes are same as Word: 0137 (ķ), 1e31 (ḱ) and 01e9 (ǩ).

How to Type K with Accent on iPhone and Android

On both iPhone and Android, touch and hold the K key on the keyboard. A small menu will appear with the accents. Slide your finger to the one you want and lift it.

Which accents you see depends on your keyboard language. If the one you need is missing, add a keyboard for that language in your phone settings, or copy it from the box above.

Other K Accents (ḳ ḵ)

The accents above are the most common, but some languages use other K accents too. You can copy all of them from the copy and paste box at the top.

  • ḳ (k with dot below): Arabic and Semitic transliteration. Unicode 1E33.
  • ḵ (k with line below): Hebrew and Semitic transliteration. Unicode 1E35.

These letters don't have Alt codes on Windows. Use copy and paste, the emoji panel, or type the Unicode and press Alt + X in Word (or Ctrl + Shift + U on Chromebook).
