D with Accent (ď đ ḍ) on Keyboard: How to Type D with Accents

There is no Alt code for most D accents (ď đ ḍ), so the easiest way to type D with accent is to copy it from the box below.

On Windows, there are no Alt codes for these letters. The easiest way is to copy them from the box below, or in Word type the Unicode (for example 010F for ď) and press Alt + X.

On Mac, press Control + Command + Space to open Character Viewer and search for d with caron.

đ (d with stroke) is used in Vietnamese and Croatian, ď is used in Czech and Slovak, and ḍ shows up when Hindi, Sanskrit or Arabic words are written in English letters.

Below I explain every way to type D with accent on Windows, Mac, Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Chromebook, and phones. There is also a quick reference table at the end with all the codes in one place.

For D with accent, copy and paste is honestly the best method for most people, because there is no simple keyboard shortcut for this letters.

Is There an Alt Code for D with Accent?

No. Windows Alt codes (like Alt + 0233 for é) only cover a small set of Western European letters, and none of the main D accents are in that set.

The only one here with an Alt code is ð (Alt + 0240), Ð (Alt + 0208).

Some websites say you can type Alt plus the Unicode number. That does not work in most Windows apps and gives you a wrong character. The methods below work every time.

  1. Search for Character Map in the Start Menu and open it.
  2. Set the font to Segoe UI and tick Advanced view.
  3. In Search for, type the name, for example caron, and click on Search.
  4. Find your letter, click on Select and then Copy.

  3. Search for the name, for example d with dot below, and double-click the letter to insert it.

How to Type D with Accent in Microsoft Word

Method 1: Unicode and Alt + X

This is my favorite method in Word, because it works for any letter and you don't need a number pad.

Type the Unicode of the letter and then press Alt + X. For example, type 010F and press Alt + X, and Word will change it to ď.

The codes are 010F (ď), 0111 (đ) and 1E0D (ḍ). For capitals: 010E (Ď), 0110 (Đ), 1E0C (Ḍ).

Method 2: Insert Symbol

  1. Go to Insert -> Symbol -> More Symbols.
  2. Set Font to (normal text).
  3. If you can't find it, type the code (for example 010F) in the Character code box at the bottom.
  4. Select the D with accent and click on Insert.

How to Type D with Accent in Google Docs

Google Docs has two good ways to type rare accents, and both work on any computer.

Method 1: Special Characters

  1. Click on Insert -> Special characters.
  2. In the search box, type d with caron, d with stroke, d with dot below or similar.
  3. Click on the letter to insert it.

You can also draw the letter with your mouse in the box on the left side, and Google Docs will find it for you.

Method 2: Create your Own Shortcut

If you use one accent a lot, let Docs type it for you. Docs can replace a short text with the letter automatically.

  1. Go to Tools -> Preferences and open the Substitutions tab.
  2. In the left box, type a short code like d::. In the right box, paste ď.
  3. Click on OK.

Now every time you type d:: followed by a space, Docs will change it to ď. Do the same for other accents.

How to Type D with Accent on Chromebook

Chromebook doesn't support Alt codes, but it has a Unicode shortcut that works for every letter:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + U. You will see an underlined u.
  2. Type the code of the letter, for example 010f for ď.
  3. Press Space or Enter.

The codes are same as Word: 010f (ď), 0111 (đ) and 1e0d (ḍ).

How to Type D with Accent on iPhone and Android

On both iPhone and Android, touch and hold the D key on the keyboard. A small menu will appear with the accents. Slide your finger to the one you want and lift it.

Which accents you see depends on your keyboard language. If the one you need is missing, add a keyboard for that language in your phone settings, or copy it from the box above.

Other D Accents (ḋ ḏ)

The accents above are the most common, but some languages use other D accents too. You can copy all of them from the copy and paste box at the top.

  • ḋ (d with dot above): Old Irish. Unicode 1E0B.
  • ḏ (d with line below): Arabic transliteration. Unicode 1E0F.
  • ð (eth): Icelandic, Faroese. Unicode 00F0. Alt code Alt + 0240.

Careful with Đ and Ð. The capital of đ (Đ) and the capital of ð (Ð) look exactly the same, but they are different characters. Đ is Unicode 0110 and is used in Vietnamese and Croatian. Ð is Unicode 00D0 and is used in Icelandic. If you copy from the box above, you get the right one.

For websites and HTML, you can use these codes: ď (ď), đ (đ) and ḍ (ḍ).
