G with Accent (ğ ĝ ġ ģ) on Keyboard: How to Type G with Accents

There are no Alt codes for G with accent (ğ ĝ ġ ģ), but you can copy them from the box below or type them with Unicode in Word.
On Windows, there are no Alt codes for these letters. The easiest way is to copy them from the box below, or in Word type the Unicode (for example 011F for ğ) and press Alt + X.
On Mac, press Control + Command + Space to open Character Viewer and search for g with breve.
ğ (soft g) is the one most of people look for, because it is used in Turkish words like dağ, Doğan and Erdoğan.
Below I explain every way to type G with accent on Windows, Mac, Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Chromebook, and phones. There is also a quick reference table at the end with all the codes in one place.
G with Accent Copy and Paste
Just need the letter one time? Click on any letter below and it will be copied to your clipboard. Then paste it anywhere with Ctrl + V (Windows) or Command + V (Mac).
Click a letter to copy it.
For G with accent, copy and paste is honestly the best method for most people, because there is no simple keyboard shortcut for this letters.
Is There an Alt Code for G with Accent?
No. Windows Alt codes (like Alt + 0233 for é) only cover a small set of Western European letters, and none of the main G accents are in that set.
Be careful with codes you find online. The Unicode of a letter is not the same as its Alt code, so typing Alt + the Unicode number on the number pad will give you a different character. Use the methods below instead.

How to Type G with Accent in Microsoft Word
Method 1: Unicode and Alt + X
This one works for every accent, and even on laptops without a number pad.
Type the Unicode of the letter and then press Alt + X. For example, type 011F and press Alt + X, and Word will change it to ğ.
The codes are 011F (ğ), 011D (ĝ), 0121 (ġ) and 0123 (ģ). For capitals: 011E (Ğ), 011C (Ĝ), 0120 (Ġ), 0122 (Ģ).

How to Type G with Accent in Google Docs
Google Docs has two good ways to type rare accents, and both work on any computer.
Method 1: Special Characters
- Click on Insert -> Special characters.
- In the search box, type g with breve, g with circumflex, g with dot above or similar.
- Click on the letter to insert it.
You can also draw the letter with your mouse in the box on the left side, and Google Docs will find it for you.
Method 2: Create your Own Shortcut
This is my favorite trick for Google Docs. You can make Docs replace a short text with the accent letter automatically.
- Go to Tools -> Preferences and open the Substitutions tab.
- In the left box, type a short code like g::. In the right box, paste ğ.
- Click on OK.
Now every time you type g:: followed by a space, Docs will change it to ğ. Do the same for other accents.
How to Type G with Accent on Chromebook
Alt codes don't work on Chromebook. Instead, ChromeOS has its own Unicode shortcut:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + U. You will see an underlined u.
- Type the code of the letter, for example 011f for ğ.
- Press Space or Enter.
The codes are same as Word: 011f (ğ), 011d (ĝ), 0121 (ġ) and 0123 (ģ).

On both iPhone and Android, touch and hold the G key on the keyboard. A small menu will appear with the accents. Slide your finger to the one you want and lift it.
Which accents you see depends on your keyboard language. If the one you need is missing, add a keyboard for that language in your phone settings, or copy it from the box above.
Other G Accents (ǧ ǵ)
The accents above are the most common, but some languages use other G accents too. You can copy all of them from the copy and paste box at the top.
- ǧ (g with caron): Skolt Sami, Romani. Unicode 01E7.
- ǵ (g with acute): Macedonian transliteration. Unicode 01F5.
These letters don't have Alt codes on Windows. Use copy and paste, the emoji panel, or type the Unicode and press Alt + X in Word (or Ctrl + Shift + U on Chromebook).
