While this guide is specific to LG monitor, it will also work for troubleshooting audio on other monitors like ASUS, Dell, BenQ, or ViewSonic.
Your LG monitor may flicker due to various reasons such as low refresh rate (Hz), loose HDMI cables, outdated GPU drivers, or misconfiguration of the monitor’s setting.
Simply restarting your computer graphics will fix the flickering issue in most cases. To restart GPU, press Windows Key + Ctrl + B + Shift keys on your keyboard together.
This will freeze your PC display for a few seconds, and then it will be restored.
If you are still having trouble, change your computer refresh rate, update GPU driver, and power cycle your monitor. If it still flickers, factory reset your monitor.
Quick Test
If you are on Windows, open Task Manager on your computer by pressing Control + Shift + Esc keys together.
If your screen is not flickering on Task Manager, the issue is related to some incompatible app that is opened on your computer.
In that case, think about an app or software that you have recently installed and uninstall it.
Change Refresh Rate
If your monitor refresh rate is not set as per your computer hardware or set too low, it will flicker.
Refresh rate refers to how frequently the images on your screen are updated. Generally, a higher refresh rate means better quality.
But every display has a maximum refresh rate it can support. Configuring the refresh rate too high in your PC settings could lead to screen flickering.
On Windows 10? Skip to steps for Windows 10.
On Mac? Skip to steps for macOS.
Steps for Windows 11
- Open Settings on your Windows computer.
- Go to System -> Display in the left pane.
- Click on Display adapter properties. Select the Monitor tab.
- Under Monitor Settings, you will see the screen refresh rate.
- Click the drop-down menu and select the high refresh rate. See the screenshot below:
- Click on Apply button.
Steps for Windows 10
- Open Settings from Start Menu.
- Click on System.
- Under Display, click on Advanced display settings.
- Next, click the drop-down menu under Refresh rate and select the high refresh rate. Click on Apply.
Steps for macOS
- Open System Preferences from the dock.
- Click on Displays.
- Click on Display Settings.
- On the left side panel, select your LG monitor.
- Click the drop-down menu next to Refresh Rate and select the high refresh rate. Click on Done. See the screenshot below:

Change Cable
If you are using an HDMI cable for a video connection to your LG monitor and this cable is loose or faulty, then not only will it cause flickering, but also other problems like a black screen.
Check if your HDMI or DVI cable is properly connected to both your LG monitor and your computer. Check both ends of the HDMI cable for any damages.
If you have a spare HDMI cable, use that. If it solves the issue, then the problem was with your HDMI cable.
Update Drivers
Here’s how to update GPU drivers in Windows 10 or Windows 11:
- Open Device Manager.
- To open Device Manager, open Windows Run using Windows + R keys on the keyboard.
- Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter.
- Expand the Display adapters section.
- Right-click on your display driver and choose Update Driver.
- Select Search automatically for the driver option.
Once it is updated, check if your LG monitor is now working as it should.
Power Cycle your LG Monitor
If updating the graphics card drivers didn’t help, power cycle your LG monitor.
To cycle the power on your LG Monitor, first, turn it off.
Now unplug the power cord from your monitor. Keep it as it is for 1-2 minutes.
Now plug the power cord back into your LG Monitor and turn it on.
Factory Reset your LG Monitor
If none of the above works, it is very much possible that your LG monitor has misconfigured settings that are causing the flickering. To fix it, you need to factory reset your monitor.
The steps to reset monitor vary from brand to brand, but here are general instructions which apply to most common LG, HP, and ASUS monitors:
Instructions to Factory Reset LG Monitor
- Press the menu button on your monitor. This will open Settings options.
- Scroll and select the Factory Reset option and select it using its respective button.
- Confirm your selection by selecting Yes.
On some newer LG monitor models, the factory reset option is named as Reset to Initial Settings.
Instructions to Factory Reset ASUS Monitor
- Press the Menu button on your monitor.
- Press Menu button again and then select Settings.
- Use the down button to scroll to the All Reset option and then select it.
Instructions to Factory Reset HP Monitor
- Open the On-Screen menu by pressing the Menu button using the buttons at the bottom right corner of your HP monitor.
- Go to the Management section and select the factory Reset option.
If you have tried all the above methods and your monitor is still flickering, it is possible that the monitor itself is damaged.
To confirm if this is the case, connect the monitor to another computer.
If the issue persists, it is likely that there is a hardware problem with the monitor.
