To turn off or disable Guardian on your Oculus (Meta) Quest 2, you must first create a Meta developer account and enable developer mode on your headset.
Once you have completed these steps, you can turn off Guardian from the headset settings or use SideQuest.
1. Create Meta Developer Account
The first step is to enable developer mode on your Quest 2, and for that, you must create a Meta developer account. Here’s how to do that:
- Open developer.oculus.com/manage/organization/create/ in a web browser.
Login with the Meta account you used when setting up your Quest 2 headset.
- Once you are logged in, create an organization. You can give it any name. See the screenshot below:
- Check the I Agree box and click on Submit.
- Now open the Meta Quest app on your phone.
Make sure you are signed in with the same Meta account that you just created Developer account with.
Note: Your headset and phone need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Tap on Headset Settings.
- In Headset Settings, tap on Developer Mode. Toggle the switch to On for Developer Mode.
In older versions of the Quest app (previously known as Oculus), you will find the Developer Mode option under Settings -> More Settings -> Advanced Settings.
Next, click on Developer Settings and toggle the switch to On. See the screenshot below:
Once you have enabled developer mode on your Quest 2, there are 2 ways to turn off Guardian:
2a. Disable Guardian Using Settings
Put on your Oculus Quest 2 VR headset.
- Open Settings, and then select System.
- Next, select Developer in the left side menu.
- There, you will see a toggle switch for the Guardian feature. Turn it off and close the settings.
If your Quest 2 is running on older firmware, you will find the Guardian option under Settings -> See All -> Developer.
- Next, click on Acknowledge button to confirm disabling of Guardian feature.
Note: The Guardian will be automatically enabled when your Quest 2 VR headset restarts.
2b. Disable Gaurdian Using SideQuest
- Download SideQuest on your computer. It is available for both PC and Mac.
- When SideQuest is installed on your computer, launch it.
- Connect your Quest 2 headset to your computer using the USB-C cable.
- When prompted, allow access to your PC, and USB debugging mode.
When the SideQuest successfully detects it, you will see a green circle icon at the top left corner.
- Click on the Setting icon at the top right corner of SideQuest. See the screenshot below:
- Under Guardian, there will be two options. Click on OFF to disable the Guardian.
If you have any questions about this guide, feel free to ask me!
Ok, so I installed sidequest, but I don’t get the settings icon anywhere and I have not been able to disable guardian by any of the methods, because even though I opened a developer account, I do not have the option either. Both my Quest 2 and my computer are in the same WiFi.
Thanks
Have you activated Developer Mode on your Quest 2? You’ll need to do this to access Side Quest settings.
