How to Fix a Steam Deck that is Not Detecting Monitor

If your steam is unable to connect to a monitor or TV, it could be due to random bug which can be fixed by resetting the cable connections.

Reset Connections

If you are using a USB-C dock to connect your Steam Deck to your monitor, unplug all the cables from the dock, including the power cable, and only plug the display cable.

Now, put your Steam Deck to sleep. Wait for 1 minute and then wake it up.

This method has worked for the majority of users who were experiencing the problem of connecting their console to the monitor.

Check Input Source

Confirm that the input settings match the port you connect your Steam Deck to if your monitor has multiple inputs.

Check the port number you use to connect your Steam Deck and select it as an input source on the monitor.

Reboot Steam Deck

If the above method does not work, try rebooting your Steam Deck. Sometimes, a simple restart is all that is needed to get rid of annoying issues.

To reboot your console, go to to Steam -> Power, and then Restart to reboot your Steam deck. Alternatively, you can force restart by holding the power button for 10 seconds.

Install Updates

Here’s how to update your Steam Deck:

  1. Press the Steam button. Go to Settings. Then go to System.
  1. Tap the Check for Updates option next to the software update.

If there are any pending updates, download and install them.
