PS5 Won’t Download Games in Rest Mode? Enable these Settings!

When your PS5 isn’t downloading in rest mode, enable “Stay Connected to the Internet” and “Auto-Download” options in the PS5 settings.

Here’s how to enable the Stay connected to the internet option:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to System.
  1. Select Power Saving -> Features Available in Rest Mode. See the screenshot below:
  1. Toggle the switch to On for Stay Connected to the Internet option.
  1. Now restart your PS5 for the changes to take effect.

To enable Auto-Download setting, follow these steps:

  1. Open PS5 Settings.
  2. Select Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
  1. Select Automatic Updates.
  2. Toggle the switch to On for Auto-Download and Auto-Install in Rest Mode. See the screenshot below:

If its still not downloading, pause it for few seconds and then resume it. Do this until the game finishes downloading.

Pause and Resume

If your game update takes too long to download and is stuck at a certain percentage, pause it for a few seconds and then resume it to see if it fixes the problem.

Here’s how to do that:

  1. Press the PS button on DualSense controller to open the Control Center.
  2. Select the Downloads/Uploads option.
  1. Choose the game you want to update, press the X button on your controller. This will open up the download information.
  2. Press the X button on the controller again and select Pause from the menu.
  1. Wait for 1 minute.
  2. Repeat the same steps, but this time select the Resume option.

Optional: Enable Automatic Updates

I always recommend enabling automatic update files download and installations settings. This can address the issues caused by software bugs.

Here’s how to do that:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select System.
  1. Select System Software -> System Software Update and Settings.
  1. Toggle the switch to On for Download Update Files Automatically and Install Update Files Automatically options.
