When your Oculus Quest 2 right controller is not working properly, it’s mostly due to a battery issue or a software malfunction.
The quick fix as suggested by Meta Quest Support on Reddit is to reset your Quest right controller. It’s very easy! All you need is just to remove and re-install the controller’s battery.
Each Oculus Quest 2 controller uses a single AA battery. So, remove the battery from Quest right controller for 10 minutes and then re-install it again.
Also, inspect the contact points inside the battery bay of controller. If you see any corrosion there, clean it with a sand paper or cotton swab with little vinegar.
If re-inserting the batteries in your Oculus Quest 2 right controller or restarting the headset does not do the trick, try installing the new battery.
Meta recommends using a good brand AA battery. If you use a rechargeable battery, charge it for at least 30 minutes and then try again.
If that doesn’t work, restart your Oculus headset. Next unpair the right controller and pair it again. This should resolve the problem.
Restart your Quest 2
To restart your headset, put your headset on and press and hold the Power button on the right side of your headset. This will open the Power menu.
Select Restart from the menu.
If this does not work, hold the Power button for 10 to 15 seconds until your headset is turned off. Then, wait 1 minute and turn it on again using the power button.
Re-Pair the Controller
Next, un-pair the right controller and then pair it again with your Oculus Quest 2. Here’s how to do that:
Steps to Unpair your Oculus Quest 2 Controller
- Open the Meta Quest app on your phone.
- Tap on the menu icon at the bottom right.
- Go to Devices -> Headset Settings.
- Tap on Controllers.
- Select the Right Controller.
- Next, tap the Unpair Controller option.
- On next screen, again select the UNPAIR option.
- Now, close the Meta Quest app.
- Turn off your Oculus Quest 2 for 5 minutes, then turn it on again.
Now, follow the steps to re-pair your right controller again.
- Open the Meta Quest app on your phone.
- Go to Devices -> Headset Settings -> Controllers.
- Tap on the Pair New Controller option.
- Select the Pair Meta Quest 2 Right Controller option.
- Now, press and hold the Oculus and B buttons on your right controller for about 4 seconds. (Refer to the image below).
Once the right controller is successfully paired, it will appear in the app.
If none of the above fixes work, your controller might have a hardware issue. In that case, if it is under warranty, contact Meta Quest support. They may offer free replacement.
