How to Fix Logitech Options Not Detecting Mouse on a Mac

If Logitech Options or Logi Options+ stops working on your Mac, it will not detect your Logitech mouse. While, in most cases, your mouse will still work, any customization you have made to your mouse settings will not be applied.

I understand how frustrating this can be because I have also customized my mouse’s side buttons to switch between desktops. When Logi Options fails to detect the mouse on my Mac, I cannot use those buttons.

So, how do I deal with it?

A quick workaround that works for me is to switch off my Logitech mouse using its power switch and then switch it back on. Hopefully, this will work for you as well.

But, if you frequently encounter this issue, the quick fix may not be sufficient. Follow these steps to resolve this problem permanently:

  1. Grant permissions
  2. Add to startup programs
  3. Update Logi Options

1. Grant Permissions to Logi Options

The first step is to confirm that necessary system-level permissions are granted to Logitech Options software. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Open System Preferences.
  1. Go to Security & Privacy.

Click the lock icon on the bottom left and enter your Mac password to be able to make changes.

  1. Once the settings are unlocked, click on Accessibility and ensure that both Logi Options and Logi Options Daemon are added there. See the screenshot below:

In macOS Ventura, you will find it under Security & Privacy -> Input Monitoring.

2. Add Logi Options to Startup Programs

Logitech Options may not be working because it hasn’t been opened.

To avoid this, it’s a good idea to add Logi Options to your startup programs so it automatically starts whenever you boot up your Mac. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Open System Preferences.
  2. Click on Users & Groups.
  1. Select Login Items. Next, click on the + icon.
  1. Next, browse and select Logi Options.

In macOS Ventura, you will find Login Options under Systems Preferences -> General -> Login Items.

3. Update Logitech Options

Sometimes, such minor issues occur due to bugs, and simply updating Logi Options to the latest version solves them.

Here’s how to update Logi Options on Mac:

  1. Open Logi Options. Click on the MORE button.
  1. Click on Software. Select “CHECK FOR UPDATE“. If the update is available, click on on “INSTALL UPDATE…” button.

I hope that after following these steps, the Logi Options will be working without any issues.

  1. Thank you so much for your detailed instructions Muhammad. I had downloaded the Logi Options directly from the Logitech site but for some reason it downloaded the Logi Option not the Options +. Now I have the latest version and the Gestures button is finally working thus allowing me to switch between desktops on my Mac.
